The type of light fixture is a major factor in how much pollution your light will give off. There are many different types of night sky friendly light fixtures for specific lighting needs, many covered and directing light down instead of out. Light color emmitted from the light source also needs to be taken into consideration when having night sky friendly lighting. Higher color temperature light is harsher and gives off more skyglow. Lighting should be 'warm', and is recommended to be no more than 3,000 Kelvin.
