The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) is the recognized authority on light pollution and is the leading organization combating light pollution worldwide. Founded in 2001, the International Dark Sky Places conservation program recognizes and promotes excellent stewardship of the night sky. Travis County is home to three such places of note, with many more designations expected in the future.

Lost Creek Neighborhood - Austin, TX
Located in southwest Austin, on the banks of beautiful Barton Creek, Lost Creek is home to over 1200 households. It received the Dark Sky Development of Distinction designation, awarded by the International Dark-Sky Association, in 2015.
River Hills Neighborhood - Austin, TX
The Westlake neighborhood of River Hills sits in the rolling terrain south of Lake Austin. It received the Dark Sky Development of Distinction designation, awarded by the International Dark-Sky Association, in 2017.
